Common failure points and frequently replaced components
RTV900 / RTVX900 (all years), overheating: This is the defining reliability issue across the Kubota RTV platform. The D902 diesel generates substantial heat, and the hydrostatic transmission adds its own thermal load. The cooling system has limited reserve capacity, particularly on the original RTV900 where the radiator is undersized for sustained towing or hill climbing. Clogged radiator fins are the single most common cause, with grass seeds, chaff, and fine debris packing the screen and cutting airflow. RTV-X series seat belt stay fracture (CPSC 2018): Approximately 26,900 RTV-X900, RTV-X1100, RTV-X1120D, and RTV-X1140 units sold from June 2015 through June 2017 were recalled for seat belt stay brackets that can crack under severe operating conditions. Three incidents of breakage were reported worldwide. The stay was replaced free of charge at authorized dealers.
RTV-X1100C floormat throttle interference (CPSC 2022): Approximately 48,875 model year 2013-2021 RTV-X1100C units were recalled because the floormat can warp, separate from the underlayment, or degrade in the area around the throttle pedal, causing throttle interference. Additionally, any RTV-X series with factory cast-iron A-arms was flagged for inspection and replacement. The floormat fix involved trimming and riveting the mat to the floor.
